In this podcast you said that you didn't know any other countries where there are traditions of pouring water at each other on "Lany poniedziałek". So my info might be interesting to you.
My ex-wife is from Western Ukraine, namely Ivano-Frankivsk. She once told me about the tradition on Easter Monday, which they call "wlywanyj ponedilok" in Ukrainian. People pour water on each other on Monday and whoever was first to do so "wins", the "loser" (the one who got wet) should treat the "winner" (with sweets or alcohol).
When I listened to your podcast I called her and asked would she understand the word "Śmigus-Dyngus", but no, they use no similar word. Just "wlywanyj ponedilok".
I strongly believe that this tradition was acquired from Poland, but even so Poland is not the only country in the world to have "Lany poniedziałek" traditions :)
is (self-explanatory) a blog. It is intended for all those who are crazy enough to try to learn Polish.
You can download our podcasts and listen to native speakers (us!) talking, arguing, shouting, screaming or simply having fun. We promise that after a while you will be able to do the same with your Polish friends.
